Workshop Description: 

In this workshop, New Brunswick-based composer Christian David Bérubé will discuss current trends in film scoring; techniques, styles, and philosophies of matching music to picture; and the hardware and software involved in modern computer-based scoring. Also, he will share stories and tips from his own experiences in the industry.

Open to filmmakers, musicians, and anyone interested in film music.

Instructor's Biography: 
Born in Edmonton in 1979, Christian David Bérubé graduated in 2005 with a Bachelor of Music from the University of Alberta, where he studied piano, voice, and composition. In 2008, he completed a Master in Music in instrumental composition under the supervision of Denis Gougeon at the Université de Montréal. He has composed the music for numerous plays and short films, and has performed professionally as a keyboardist and choral singer. In 2009, his large-scale choral work Goats on the Left won a SOCAN Award for Young Composers. He now lives in Fredericton, where in addition to composing he teaches piano, composition, and theory. His recent work has been mainly in film and media: his film scores for Zack & Luc (2014) and My Husband’s Jump (2017) won the Excellence in Music Composition awards at the Silver Wave Film Festival.
